What the calculator does with your entries
The browser calculator converts a target dose to milligrams when necessary, then uses three pieces of arithmetic:
concentration (mg/mL) = vial quantity (mg) ÷ water volume (mL)
draw volume (mL) = target dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
syringe units = draw volume (mL) ÷ mL per marked unit
On the browser tool, the 0.3 mL/30-unit, 0.5 mL/50-unit, and 1.0 mL/100-unit selections each represent 0.01 mL per marked unit. The selected scale changes the visual capacity of the marker, not the concentration formula.
Step-by-step browser workflow
Step 1: Select the syringe scale
Choose the calculator scale that matches the labeled capacity and markings on the syringe you are checking: 0.3 mL/30 units, 0.5 mL/50 units, or 1.0 mL/100 units.
Step 2: Enter the vial quantity
Enter the vial quantity in milligrams exactly as supplied by your source documentation. The calculator does not identify the vial or decide what amount it contains.
Step 3: Enter the water volume

Worked example of the calculator math

- Vial quantity entered by the user: 10 mg
- Water volume entered by the user: 2 mL
- Target dose entered by the user: 500 mcg, which equals 0.5 mg
- Selected scale: 1.0 mL/100 units
- Find concentration: 10 mg ÷ 2 mL = 5 mg/mL.
- Find draw volume: 0.5 mg ÷ 5 mg/mL = 0.1 mL.
- Convert to marked units: 0.1 mL ÷ 0.01 mL per unit = 10 units.
A useful manual check is dimensional: milligrams divided by milligrams per milliliter leaves milliliters. Then milliliters divided by milliliters per marked unit leaves syringe units.
Important checks before relying on the display
- Confirm that mg and mcg were not reversed; 1 mg equals 1,000 mcg.
- Confirm that the vial label and water volume were copied exactly.
- Confirm that the selected syringe capacity and markings match the actual device.
- Recalculate concentration and draw volume independently.
